Today, I sent 54 emails. This is on a day with 3.5 hours of meetings, which means I sent an email once every 5.5 minutes.
I received 52 emails addressed to me. I’m not counting meeting acceptances, forum postings, mass mails or room booking notices.
I think that’s a pretty normal day. Is it the same for you?
~15 both ways is normal for me and they usually come overnight from people in different timezones.
52 emails/day does appear to be excessive. I wonder how you managed. I received an average of 20 emails a day, and I often struggled to answer them all on the same day.
The days when I have 50 emails and I send 50 emails are ‘organising’ days. I seem to have them more and more. I guess that’s what happens when you start managing projects.
There are some days where I have fewer emails (maybe 15-20) and then I can do research, write reports and prepare presentations.
I NEED to have at least two of these technical days this week but I’m afraid that I will be forced to have organising days. I wish I had more control over it but there is an important date coming up for a big project and it’s a lot of work to herd all the sheep, erm I mean stakeholders, to give me what I need.
Sigh. It means I might need to have a technical day on the weekend. Weekend working happens about once a month it seems.
Same for me here! Everyday loaded with emails and meetings!
