Walking towards me was a girl with headphones on. Her headphones were attached to a something she was holding in her hand.
‘Wow, what’s that she’s got?’ I thought. ‘It’s huge.’
Then I got close enough to see it — She was holding a Walkman! One of those old school cassette players. Wow.
(Even more amazing, personal cassette players are still sold, and for £40 too!)
Hi Joanne,
Yeah, you may be surprised. We are still selling these tape cassette players in Sony. I was also surprised initially. But there is still pretty good demand, speaking from a demand planner point of view.
Walkman in Sony is almost equivalent to MP4 or IPOD (check out the recent launch X -Series Walkman), not the traditional tape cassette player;)
It’s great to get the inside scoop! It looks like Sony uses the name ‘Walkman’ for everything from tape cassettes to CD to MP3 to movie players too.
