You’ve been saved

In my final year of uni, knowing that I would stop being a student soon, I made a pre-emptive strike against the Commonwealth Bank and switched to ANZ, where I don’t have to pay an account keeping fee. Finally! Escaped from the clutches of the Dollarmites!

Maybe you too have been backed into a corner by the Dollarmites or are now battling the legacy of doing well in the Westpac Maths Competition. Be strong! Break free! I know you can do it.

P.S. Back in my more vulnerable days, the Dollarmites were aliens with lots of tentacles. The Dollarmites seem to have had an image overhaul; they now have more street cred and look like humans. They must have changed their publicist. Just like Tom Cruise did.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports on how the Commonwealth Bank is luring little savers with cartoons.

What a coincidence, I’m already planning the same thing 🙂 Though I haven’t decided on a bank yet.

I’m disappointed in the dollarmites’ change. Those wacky aliens were my earliest pleasant financial memory (though, even with their help, I only saved up about $6 in my childhood bank account).

Wow! I just did the same thing two weeks ago. I went in for the ‘last time’ to a Commonwealth Bank, and told the lady that I’m closing my account. She exclaimed that ‘Wow! My account number’s so short!’ Apparently I had it for a loong time (I opened it in Year 5 as a dollarmite account). I was a little sad at her taking my ATM card and cutting it in half – it had been a regular part of my wallet through high school till now.

I went from doing all my banking with the Commonwealth to now, where I have four different banks for my savings, extrasavings, credit card and broking!
