If you venture into the city arts precinct at night, you will notice the dominant species — the Melbournian. Melbournians are characterised by black winter coats. You may well think that this indicates a lack of variety in the urban ecosystem. In fact, on closer inspection, the true subtle variety reveals itself. The coats are cut differently. Some contain silver fibres through the black material (like the one I wear at the moment). Others have hoods. Some are fitted, and they are all different lengths (or at least the wearers are of different heights).
It is a natural spectacle that I enjoy immensely and look forward to on my nocturnal outings.
